Police: Manassas Gunfight Between 3 Men Leaves Innocent 16-Year-Old Girl Dead

The 16-year-old girl was killed after gunfire erupted near the 9400 block of West Street in Manassas at approximately 9:28 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4, during the city’s First Friday festivities, according to police.

Investigators say they have pieced together what led to the tragic exchange, and three men accused of opening fire are now in custody.

Xavier Wanzer, 19, approached and confronted Tasheem Douglas, 21, that night, according to a police update issued on Wednesday, September 9.

According to authorities, the two already had a “preexisting hostile relationship.”

Then the guns came out.

Douglas allegedly pulled out a weapon and fired multiple shots at Wanzer, who was not harmed. Instead, authorities claim the 16-year-old bystander was hit by gunshots.

While Douglas retreated, Wanzer allegedly fired back.

At the same moment, authorities say Talib Davis, 23, opened fire on Douglas from a nearby railroad depot parking lot.

Investigators said Douglas was struck in the leg/buttock area before Wanzer and Davis escaped.

Officers who were already in the neighborhood heard the bullets and hurried to the site, where they discovered the girl and Douglas injured and administered medical care before transporting them to local hospitals.

The teenager later died from her injuries.

Douglas was detained on Saturday, September 5, after police recognized him as the accused shooter who struck the girl.

Wanzer and Davis remained at large until Monday, Sept. 8, when investigators apprehended them with the assistance of the US Marshals Service.
