A 35‑year‑old mother in South Carolina stands accused of attempting to kill her two young children over the weekend, allegedly injuring them with a knife and a “blunt object” inside their family home.
Taylor Morgan Gosnell was taken into custody and charged with two counts of attempted murder in connection with the attack on the children, ages 3 and 6, authorities announced.
According to a news release from the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a residence in the 1400 block of Bud Arthur Bridge Road shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 for a welfare check. “Upon arrival, two juvenile children were located unattended and had suffered injuries that had appeared to have been caused by a knife,” the release states. “Both children were transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center to be treated and further evaluated.”
Investigators said they believed “during the night hours before the Sheriff’s Office was made aware of this incident, Gosnell had attacked her two children, 3 and 6‑years‑old, with both a knife and a blunt object.”
Both children remained hospitalized, were in stable condition, and were expected to recover from their injuries as of Sunday.
The 7th Circuit Solicitor’s Office reported that the six‑year‑old suffered an arm injury so severe it may require amputation, according to Greenville, South Carolina Fox affiliate WHNS.
Prosecutors noted that the interior of the home displayed evidence of a violent confrontation, including several shattered televisions and mirrors.
Gosnell returned to the residence while police were still on scene. Officers detained her and transported her to a local hospital for evaluation; during transport, she reportedly attempted to flee the ambulance.
Subsequently, Gosnell was moved to the Spartanburg County Detention Facility. She appeared before a judge for a bond hearing on Sunday and was ordered to remain in detention without bond, the sheriff’s office confirmed to Law&Crime.
This incident is not Gosnell’s first allegation of child harm. She was released on bond after a February 2024 arrest in which she faced two counts of unlawfully placing a child at risk of or causing harm to a child, or willfully abandoning a child, as reported by the local newspaper The State.
Her bond for each count was set at $5,000, and those charges remain pending.
Gosnell is scheduled to return to court for a first‑appearance hearing on Nov. 12, according to court records.
