Where to Celebrate Pride June 2026: 50+ Events Happening Around Greater Cincinnati

June has arrived, officially kicking off Pride Month in Cincinnati.

Originally established in the United States and now observed around the world, Pride Month is a month-long celebration that honors LGBTQ+ history, culture, and contributions.

Pride Month traces its roots to marches and protests held a year after the 1969 Stonewall Riots, a series of clashes between LGBTQ+ community members and police at the Stonewall Inn in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village. The historic event inspired a nationwide push for equality, visibility, and human rights, as community members and allies called on local, state, and federal leaders to take action.

Today, cities across the globe recognize June as Pride Month, and Cincinnati is among them.

The Queen City’s first Pride March took place on April 7, 1973, after the Cincinnati Gay Community organized the event. Just 75 people participated, marching from Washington Park to Fountain Square.

The march did not continue for long. After the Cincinnati Gay Community disbanded, the Pride March came to an end as well.

Pride celebrations returned in 1978 when Mayor Jerry Springer signed a proclamation recognizing June 24 as “Lesbian/Gay Pride Day.”

Rallies, celebrations, and marches continued in the years that followed. That changed in 1996 when Cincinnati voters overwhelmingly approved Issue 3, resulting in the adoption of Article 12, a city charter amendment that prevented the city council from extending protections to LGBTQ+ individuals as a social class.

Over the following four years, organizations continued to hold smaller gatherings and events, but large-scale Pride celebrations largely disappeared.

In 2000, Chris Good organized an independent committee in Northside, which revived the first Pride parade since 1995.

Cincinnati’s Pride festivities have continued since then with a parade, after-party and a lengthy list of events hosted by businesses and organizations across the Tri-State.
